Open the Door to God

A few days ago, my best friend and I were sitting outside on my front porch watching the sunset. It was a very calm and peaceful night. For a few moments, everything felt still. It was peaceful and it was beautiful. The sky was painted in soft hues of orange, yellow and pink. There were birds chirping and we even saw baby bunnies hop across the yard. We couldn't help but admire all that God has created for us.
We both have been walking through some heavy seasons in life recently. Some days feel so uncertain and there are moments where hope feels hard to grasp. However, that night when we were sitting outside, something slicked for us. We realized that through the struggles, God has never left us. He's always been there. He is everywhere, because he created everything. However, we both admitted it can be difficult to feel God's presence sometimes, especially when we can't hear Him or see clear signs of Him in our lives. This is when we rely heavily on the Bible. John 27:29 states:
"Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "You have believed because you have seen me. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."
Picture God is standing outside of your door holding a lantern. He has been standing outside your door for a long time, waiting for you to open the door to Him. The door handle is on the inside of the door, so that is why He cannot open the door for you, but rather you open the door and let Him in. It is the same way with prayer. We need to open the door and let Him in, so that we can hear him.
I have been working on this myself for a few months. It is not an overnight transformation. Like any relationship, it takes time, trust, and intentionality. However, it is so worth it. When you let God into your life—truly let Him in—everything changes. Your burdens don’t disappear, but your heart begins to shift. You see life differently. You begin to live with hope.
There are times when God feels silent. I’m in that season right now. But I’ve come to believe that when God is silent, He is teaching. He is stretching. He is working on something within us that only silence can bring to the surface. For me, I sense that God is asking me to let go—to trust Him more fully, to loosen my grip and stop trying to control everything. And even though it’s hard, I believe He’s right here with me.
If you’re walking through a season of silence, please know this: God has not left you. He knows what you’re going through. He knows what’s ahead. He wants what is best for you.
Trust in Him.
Open the door.
