I was just six years old when God introduced me to one of His greatest gifts to me—my best friend, my sister by heart. It was a warm summer afternoon, and I was outside playing with my dog, full of the boundless energy that only a six-year-old can possess. Through the fence, I noticed a little girl about my age watching me curiously. She was five. I remember thinking how fun it would be to have a new friend to play with, so naturally, I wanted to invite her over for a playdate.

I ran inside and asked my mom if I could ask her over for a playdate. She said yes and we walked over to her house with my dog. I was really nervous, but I knocked on her door, ready to make a new friend… only to have the door slammed in my face. She was just so nervous, so shy. I won’t lie—my little heart was crushed. I walked back home with tears in my eyes, feeling like I had lost a friend before I even got to meet her.

But God had other plans.

About 20 minutes later, there was a knock at my door. I opened it, and there she was—the same girl, standing nervously, asking if we could still have that playdate. And that was it. That moment marked the beginning of a friendship that has spanned over 17 years.

From that day on, we were inseparable. Every day after school, during long summers, through holidays and birthdays, she was always there. We played, laughed, grew up, and walked through life hand in hand. Our friendship matured with us, growing deeper and more meaningful with every year.

She has been there through every season of my life—my highest highs and my lowest lows. She’s held my hand through heartbreak, cheered me on in every success, and reminded me of who I am when I forgot. Although I’m technically nine months older, she has always been my role model. She is everything I admire in a person—kind, selfless, beautiful inside and out, funny, wise, and full of love.

Most of all, she is a true servant of God.

The way she carries herself—with grace, humility, and strength—has inspired me every single day to grow in my own faith. Her love for the Lord shines through in everything she does, and I can’t help but be better just by being around her. God didn’t just give me a best friend. He gave me a sister. And I am so incredibly grateful.

If you’re blessed enough to have a friend like this, treasure them. Nurture that bond. Hold on tight.

God doesn’t make mistakes. He puts people in our lives for a reason, and sometimes the sister your heart longs for comes not by blood, but by divine appointment.

Thank you, God, for my sister—my best friend, my blessing.
